| Burberry Prorsum - Spring and Summer 2013 |
Talk about Terminator meets Fashion and the by-product would be Burberry Prorsum’s Spring and Summer 2013 collection. A whole lot of metallica, mustard and skinny models parading with their varsity/bomber jackets - dragging the athletica trend to another season and also an echo of the 2012 London Olympics within the Fashion industry.
I don’t know how Christopher Bailey did it, but when the word “metallica” started popping out on blogs after blogs, the one word that stick out to my mind was tacky. I checked out the collection and I will not be ashamed to tell ya’ll that I already hit myself ten times. I didn’t say kill myself because some portion of it is true. I will only tell you this much - I could live without the metallic coat in the beginning.
The clashing patterns against different materials (including the metallicas) are actually very pleasant in the eyes. It was rather harmonious and exciting that for the house of Burberry (known for its overly classic designs) is trying something fresh, hip and young. Something very out of the ordinary and not the demure-shocking statements from Bailey: quite an oxymoron but it does makes sense. Burberry went over the top compared to the other collection it delivered - a little more so than the past collections we’ve seen. Looking pass the shiny surfaces though, it was a great Burberry staple collection.
I am in love, however, with the sunglasses and bags that was shown in the runway. If you are going to wear a statement piece, just make sure that it’s an accessory - sunglasses or even jewelries. Otherwise, you better be living in New York or London because a metallic coat will not be seen as a great knock-out piece from Burberry here in Vancouver.
